Altar Servers
Altar servers play an important role in the liturgical life of the Church. They assist the priest during Mass, ensuring the smooth flow of the liturgy, and serve as models of reverence and devotion for the congregation. At St. Louis Catholic Church, we are proud to have young people who are eager to serve God and the parish community through this meaningful ministry.
Who Can Become an Altar Server?
- Age Requirement: Children and young adults (typically ages 8 and up) who have received their First Communion are eligible to become altar servers.
- Commitment: Altar servers are asked to commit to attending practice sessions and serving at scheduled Masses.
- Training: New altar servers undergo training to learn the proper roles, movements, and prayers during Mass.
- Spiritual Benefits: Serving at the altar offers a deeper understanding of the Mass, strengthens one’s relationship with God, and allows the server to participate actively in the liturgical life of the Church.
Responsibilities of an Altar Server
- Assisting with the preparation of the altar and the gifts during Mass.
- Holding the Missal for the priest during certain prayers.
- Helping with the incense, candles, and other liturgical elements.
- Participating in the procession and recessional.
- Serving with reverence and respect, ensuring that the liturgy is celebrated with dignity.
How to Become an Altar Server
- Register: Interested individuals and parents can register by contacting the parish office.
- Attend Training: New servers will be invited to attend a training session where they will learn the basic duties and expectations.
- Serve at Mass: Once trained, altar servers will be scheduled to serve at weekend Masses and special liturgical events.
