Catechists play a crucial role in the life of the Church, sharing the teachings of Christ with others, especially the children and adults in our parish community. At St. Louis Catholic Church, our catechists are dedicated to helping others deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, preparing them to live out God’s Word in their daily lives.

Who Can Become a Catechist?

• Age Requirement: Adults and mature teens (typically 16 and older) who are committed to the Catholic faith and passionate about teaching.
• Faith Commitment: Catechists must have a deep love for the Church and a desire to share the teachings of the faith with others.
• Training: All catechists must complete initial training and participate in ongoing formation to ensure they can effectively share the faith with others.

Responsibilities of a Catechist

• Teaching the Faith: Catechists teach the Catechism of the Catholic Church to children, teens, and adults in various parish programs, including First Communion, Confirmation preparation, and Adult Faith Formation.
• Creating a Faithful Environment: Catechists foster a welcoming and prayerful environment where students feel safe and inspired to grow in their faith.
• Preparing Lessons: Catechists prepare lessons that are engaging, prayerful, and aligned with the teachings of the Church.
• Modeling the Faith: Catechists serve as role models of Catholic life and devotion, demonstrating how to live out the faith with love and compassion.

How to Become a Catechist

1. Register: Interested individuals can register by contacting the parish office or speaking with the Director of Religious Education.
2. Attend Training: All catechists are required to attend initial training to familiarize themselves with the faith formation process and teaching methods.
3. Serve in a Program: After training, catechists will be assigned to teach in a program that suits their experience and interests.
